Guest House - 40 years!

Old Presbyterian Meeting House Gala, April 2014,
Honors 40th Anniversary of Guest House

APRIL 30, 2014 ... On Tuesday evening, April 29, the Old Presbyterian Meeting House (OPMH) held a gala event honoring the 40th anniversary of Friends of Guest House. OPMH has supported Friends of Guest House since its first contribution ($50) in 1977: just three years after our founding.

From the OPMH newsletter (June 2014):

"Guest House Gala: A Rousing Success"

Fifty members of the Meeting House and other friends attended, mingling with Guest House Executive Director Kari Galloway …, staff members, residents, and members of the Guest House Board. We shared stories, food, and fellowship. The memories of long-time Guest House Board President Jeannette Smalling and Treasurer Nancy Hamilton were honored with moving tributes from their families. Other highlights included a historical overview of Guest House and its partnership with the Meeting House, the premiere of a video by our Middle School Youth, and presentation of two Householder Baskets (assembled as a Sunday School mission project) to Kari Galloway. We raised $3,747.02 to donate to our ongoing mission work with Friends of Guest House.

Old Presbyterian Meeting HouseFounded in 1772, the Old Presbyterian Meeting House is an historic and vibrant congregation of more than 1,000 members in the heart of Old Town Alexandria.

April's gala is just one facet of OPMH's support of Guest House—also regularly including volunteer service by youths and adults, service on the Guest House Board, financial and in-kind donations, events featuring our clients as speakers and more. OPMH's support was instrumental to our purchase, in 1981, of "the" Guest House: the house at One East Luray Avenue in Alexandria, which we still call home.
