40 Years of Guest House

Friends of Guest House has had its headquarters in this house since the founding in 1974, when Betty McConkey (the founder and herself a parolee) rented it to help other women leaving incarceration. In 1981, we purchased the property with help from the City of Alexandria and the Old Presbyterian Meeting House. In 2004, the building's dramatic renovation was completed—thanks to our renovation partners, who donated $300,000 worth of labor, materials, furnishings and design services. Today, the Guest House hosts the modest offices of Friends of Guest House as well as residential and meeting spaces for our clients.
